Xcatalog and Xcatalog Pro Downloads

First, see the general software distribution download information, if you haven't already. Then, download either:

(Also see older versions below if you need them.)

Download the full manual (in PDF format):

Optionally, download the "quick start" tutorial:

This tutorial can be used with the full or the demonstration version of Xcatalog or Xcatalog Pro (though in the case of the demonstration version, you'll have to ignore the 50-item limit message that appears).

Using ODBC with Xcatalog Pro

If you're planning to use Xcatalog Pro under Mac OS X, visit Em's ODBC technology partner Actual Technologies for a full suite of ODBC drivers for Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, MySQL, PostgreSQL, OpenBase, etc.

For Xcatalog Pro under Windows, you can use the built-in or vendor-supplied ODBC drivers for the most popular databases and spreadsheets.

Download/installation

The Pro and non-Pro versions of Xcatalog are included in these downloads, but they're distinct products purchased separately, according to whether you need to use ODBC-accessible databases (Pro) or not (non-Pro).

When you've downloaded and unpacked one of the archives above, open the appropriate folder for QuarkXPress 6.x or 7.x, then drag the either the Pro or the non-Pro XTension (.xnt) file (depending on what you purchased or would like to test) to the XTensions subfolder in your QuarkXPress folder, to install it.

Upgrades

These new versions of Xcatalog 6/7/8 will work with the 6/7-style serials of the form "EC-...". If you have a new-style serial of this form, the upgrade to 8.x is free; you don't even have to do anything other than install the new XTension--it will use your existing serial number.

Otherwise, you'll have to purchase an upgrade from an earlier version.

Release notes

Please see the list of changes for important notes.

Known problems/limitations

If you're having trouble with Xcatalog 6.x for Mac OS X always prompting for a serial number at start-up, find and delete any old files whose name begins with com.emsoftware. in your ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder.

Due to limitations in QuarkXPress 7, DDs and data files with filenames containing Unicode characters are not selectable.

The Xcatalog Data Linker palette now knows about palette sets, but doesn't remember positions from session to session. (This will be fixed soon.)

Limits in demonstration mode

In demonstration mode, Xcatalog and Xcatalog Pro will process (import or export) no more than 50 linked document elements at a time. No other limitations are present.

Host requirements

  • Xcatalog 6.x Mac OS X/Windows: QuarkXPress 6.1 or later.
  • Xcatalog 7.x Mac OS X: QuarkXPress 7.01 or later (note well the .01, which is the first Universal Binary version).
  • Xcatalog 7.x Windows: QuarkXPress 7.0 or later.
  • Xcatalog 8.x: QuarkXPress 8.0 or later.

System requirements

Same as its QuarkXPress host application.

Older versions

Below are Xcatalog releases for older versions of QuarkXPress. These should still work, and we can support them to some extent (answering usage questions, etc.), but we can't fix bugs and we can't enhance them any more. Use them at your own risk.

You will have to request old-style serials for these products, given your new-style serial.

Note that we don't support QuarkXPress 5 at all; the 4.x XTensions will work with it in general, but not in some specific cases we've seen.

Also note that there may be multiple versions in these downloads; you should use the XTension whose major version matches the major version of QuarkXPress (e.g., use Xcatalog 4.x with XPress 4.x).
